Santee city manager FIRED!

Why hasn't this story been covered by the Santee Patch?
Under intense pressure from the firefighters union the Santee city council fired the city manager in closed session Wednesday night. Why? Because he did what the council wanted him to do, manage the city budget, in part by cutting firefighter positions, which the council approved. The union interference began with the removal of the chief at union request followed by the sacking of the city manager, again because of union pressure. When the need arises, the firefighters perform Herculean efforts to protect lives and property, and their efforts are to be praised and commended. However, at the end of the day, they are employees of the city not city leaders. What kind of a system do we have when the public employee unions think they decide who runs the city when that decision is in the domain of the voters? Anarchy, I believe. The city council members need to grow some brass and refuse to be bullied by the firefighters union, or any union for that matter, even if it means one won't be able to run for office without the union's endorsements smeared all over their campaign posters. This is just another example of politicians worrying more about getting reelected than they do about doing the people's business. It's time to cull out the wimps. When the incumbents come up for reelection just say hell no, not you again.
