2 Arrested in Lakeside Marijuana, Honey Oil Bust Face Multiple Charges

Suspects are being held on drug, battery and child endangerment charges after operation is uncovered at their home.

An incident in a bar Friday night has led authorities to a drug operation in Lakeside and resulted in a couple being busted.

Two people were arrested after a marijuana grow operation and "honey oil" lab was uncovered at their Cimbria Way home Friday night in Lakeside, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Brian Robert Ruiz, who will be 45 tomorrow, and Kendra Michelle Ruiz, 38, are being held on multiple drug and child endangerment charges, according to jail records.

Authorities say the incident began about 8:30 p.m. Friday when sheriff's deputies from Alpine and Lakeside responded to a call about a man displaying a knife at the Renegade Bar on Olde Highway 80 in unincorporated El Cajon. Using the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle, which was registered to the Cimbria Way address, the car was tracked down and stopped. A search of a cell phone showed evidence of an indoor marijuana grow at the home.

A female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and a male passenger who had displayed a knife at the country and western dance bar was arrested for possession of concentrated cannabis, sheriff's Sgt. Scott Sterner says.

When deputies went to the residence on the 12000 block of Cimbria Way, they could see the windows on the home and garage were boarded up, hear fans operating inside, and smell the aroma of marijuana.

Deputies obtained and executed a search warrant with the assistance of the Narcotics Task Force. Inside the residence deputies discovered a marijuana grow and a BHO/"honey oil" lab. The Sheriff's Crime Lab was called and responded to process the evidence, Sterner says.

Robert Ruiz is also charged with battery and displaying a deadly weapon. No bail was set. Bail was set at $495,000 for Kendra Ruiz. They are scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 15 in El Cajon Superior Court.
