Apartment Fire in El Cajon Leaves Family Looking for Permanent Housing

An apartment fire has left an East County family in a difficult position.

An El Cajon family was left in need of emergency housing on Monday after a fire scorched their apartment.

The fire appeared to have started around a clothes dryer on the second story of and apartment complex on the 500 block of East Camden Avenue, and was reported around 10 a.m., city spokeswoman Monica Zech said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, in about 10 minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading. Losses from the fire are estimated at $15,000.

Until permanent housing can be arranged, the family has planned to live with relatives.
