Reports of a noisy explosion brought the Sheriff's Bomb Squad to a Santee neighborhood to investigate a suspicious device Wednesday evening, according to 10 News.

A woman told the Sheriff's Department that a she thought a cherry bomb had gone off in front of her home in the 9800 block of Gandy Avenue, according to the news station.

The bomb squad began investigating at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night, and no evacuation of the area was ordered. Witnesses to the incident report that the explosion occurred in an open gutter

A comment and photos posted to the Santee Patch Facebook page suggest it was more than a firework.

"The blast reminded me of dynamite. It packed that hard of a punch," wrote a witness who heard the blast, but prefers to remain anonymous.

The same witness said other blasts had been heard recently in the neighborhood, one that woke his wife and him from bed.

The suspicious device pictured in the photos shows what looks like small screwdriver with wires attached to it.

The commander of the Santee Sheriff's station said the incident is under investigation, and he couldn't give details yet.
