Brush Fire Causes Closure of Trails at Mission Trails Park, Except for Cowles Mt.

Part of state Route 52 and all trails at Mission Trails Regional Park except for Cowles Mountain were closed Monday due to a Father's Day brush fire that scorched more than 100 acres in the 5,800-acre park.

The trail closure was ordered at the request of the San Diego Fire- Rescue Department, which planned to watch for hot spots and conclude mop-up activities, according to Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation's website, mtrp.org. The foundation reported that the closure would be in effect until further notice.

The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday off the eastbound lanes of state Route 52 near Santo Road, San Diego fire-rescue and the California Highway Patrol reported. The cause was under investigation.

The No. 3 lane of state Route 52 east of Santo Road was closed to morning commuters. According to the CHP, the lane closure was likely to last until noon.

One firefighter sustained heat exhaustion while fighting the blaze, according to KGTV 10News. No structural losses were reported.
