UPDATED: Firefighters Extinguish 15-Acre Brush Fire off El Nopal

The blaze is now 100 percent contained.

A brush fire that blackened about 15 acres Sunday near Lakeside was 100 percent contained by early afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at about 10:15 a.m. as a 2-acre blaze in the 10400 block of Aquilla Drive near El Nopal, and had grown to 10 acres in about an hour, according to fire officials and the California Highway Patrol.

In the noon hour, fire officials said the fire had burned about 15 acres, and that its forward spread had been stopped.

Lakeside Fire Protection District and Cal Fire personnel were "making good progress'"on fire, and had called in a strike team, fire officials said.

No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were ordered, fire officials said.

Fire crews expected to remain at the scene overnight, according to Cal Fire.
