Controlled Burns Conducted in Deep East County

If you see smoke in the sky from East County, it's likely part of a controlled burn in Cuyamaca.

Controlled burns will be conducted June 14 and 15 on Cuyamaca Rancho State Park land by CAL FIRE, according to a press release put out by the agency.

The burns will be taking place all day long and into the night, opposite the Paso Picacho campground. CAL FIRE reminds residents that smoke from the burn will likely be seen from around the county, it is normal and doesn't need to be reported.

According to CAL FIRE, "these burns are part of the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Reforestation Project that will allow the eventual return of a natural forest ecosystem following the catastrophic of 2003 which burned 95 percent of the nearly 25,000 acre park."
