David Doiron of Lakeside ID'd as Poway Crash Victim

Authorities said the evidence indicates Doiron was texting at the time of the crash at Espola and Trailwind roads.

Authorities have released the name of a Lakeside man who died when a speeding pickup truck slammed into a pair of trees in Poway.

David Doiron, 43, crashed the Ford F150 in the area of Espola and Trailwind roads late Wednesday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. David Cheever.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Doiron was driving erratically on Espola when his truck suddenly veered off the right side of the road, hit a curb and struck the trees before coming to rest on its passenger side, Cheever said.

Doiron died while firefighters were attempting to free him from the wreckage.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was either receiving or sending text messages at the time of the crash, Cheever said, noting that toxicology tests were pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol also played a role.
