CHP Arrests Driver After Chase Down State Route 52

The motorist is taken into custody after heading into Santee, then turning around to flee toward Interstate 5, where he crashed.

Patrolmen arrested a motorist Wednesday who sped into Santee then made a U-turn and led authorities on a chase that ended on Interstate 5, according to NBCSanDiego.com.

At about 7:45 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer spotted a driver in Kearny Mesa speeding. 

The driver fled the officer, leading him in a chase down state Route 52,  then changed course at Mast Boulevard, turning back west on the road.

At that point, according to the report, a San Diego police helicopter joined the pursuit.

The chase ended at I-5 near University City, where the driver failed to negotiate the transition to the southbound freeway and crashed.

Authorities the took the uninjured driver into custody.
