Firefighters today were investigating a small fire that spread through a transient camp Saturday night near the intersection of State Route 52 and State Route 125 in Santee.
"A fire in a 30-foot by 30-foot area near the freeway intersection was reported at 7:49 p.m., a Heartland Fire dispatcher said."It was near a homeless encampment."
The dispatcher said firefighters from Santee, El Cajon and Lakeside fire departments responded to the blaze.

"The fire was knocked down at 8:15 p.m.," the dispatcher said.
