Firefighters Extinguish 2 Structure Fires in East County, Just Half-Mile Apart

The fires, which were both said to have started accidentally, caused about $5,000 in damage to each of the businesses.

Firefighters extinguished two non-injury fires at El Cajon businesses a half-mile apart on Thursday night.

The first fire that broke out near Gillespie Field was reported shortly before 7 p.m. at Precision Metal Products, Inc., 850 W. Bradley Ave., according to Monica Zech of Heartland Fire & Rescue.

Fire crews confined the blaze to a collector unit, where titanium dust had built up and apparently ignited, Zech said. The fire was out in about 15 minutes.

Another fire was reported minutes after the first at Aero Paint, 1780 Joe Crosson Drive, Zech said. That fire, which had started in a paint booth inside a hangar, was also knocked down in about 15 minutes.

The fires, which were both said to have started accidentally, caused about $5,000 in damage to each of the businesses, Zech said.

Hazmat teams were dispatched to both locations as a precaution because chemicals were involved, Zech said.
