Four Arrested at Santee DUI Checkpoint

Deputies also issued three citations during Friday night's checkpoint.

Sheriff's deputies arrested four people during a DUI checkpoint Friday night.

Deputies at the checkpoint, which was held from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the City of Santee, contacted 860 vehicles of the 930 vehicles that went through the checkpoint. Field sobriety tests were given to four drivers, and two were arrested, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies also arrested two other people for non-DUI charges and issued three citations. The specific location of the checkpoint was not released.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety funded the program.

Great use of resources! NOT! Make DUI a felony, one strike and you walk for life because you wouldn't even be able to afford a bus pass from the astronomical fines. Instead, it's a money making scam disguised as public safety... Sheep!

Absolutely Agree

Don't say that too loud Kathy. Some people here are afraid to hear the truth and try to demonize those that expose it... Guess rose colored glasses are still in fashion...

I bet all 4 were coming from The Oaks Bar by the golf course LOL
Deb August 26, 2012 at 02:27 AM
I guess you would rather those people get on the freeway drunk so they can cause accidents & kill people?
Dosjaks Kneipp August 26, 2012 at 03:00 AM
Like folks using cell phone and/or texting while driving!
Jennthe Shredder August 26, 2012 at 03:03 AM
No one should operate any vehicle whilst intoxicated, I was just making a funny because The Oaks is a hotspot for DUI activity....
Timber August 26, 2012 at 04:30 AM
One does not need to be drunk to cause accidents or kill people.
Keb2051 August 26, 2012 at 04:57 AM
Uh yea let's fill our jails with DUI's and pay to house them while we have no room for the true felons like murderers, rapists and child molesters! Sweet idea sheeple!

When those drunks kill your brother or sister in Santee, coming from a Santee, bar like they did to my brother you may change your mind.
Timber August 26, 2012 at 07:10 PM
Tom, I would never discount your profound loss and I am quite saddened by your suffering. This should not be, yet life is inherently risky. A possible solution to end such an event from occurring in the future would be to hold mass detention of all drivers all the time in order to stamp out this abhorrent behavior. This of course could not pass Constitutional scrutiny because everyone's Liberty would be sacrificed in order to apprehend those violators. Law enforcement has always had the ability to go about the community at large and observe anyone exhibiting such behavior and stop them in particular because the probable cause threshold has been crossed. Additionally, the basis for which roadblocks were Constitutionally permissible was for the administrative purpose of "educating and deterring" the public not for the sole purpose of detecting and arresting suspected drunk drivers this was considered ancillary to the main purpose. Respectfully submitted.

It's pitiful and embarrassing how docile we've become. A bunch of sheep quaking in our boots. Say hello to United Police State of America. Don't complain. It's all for the common good, right? Besides, no one asked you, did they.

I submit that checkpoints like this are an archaic waste of resources. The deputies used to man it could have been in patrol cars doing line patrols and making many more than 2 arrests out of 903 contacts. It's grant money which has to be spent according to the grant. Where did the grant money come from? Guess. Taxpayers.

Most everything they do is for revenue generation, clerical fees at the City of San Diego for processing a Building Permit are $3,200.00 per hour! When I complained they said they paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to an outside firm (read crony) to do fee study. Results, they were cheaper than Santa Barbara and LA so their fees are OK.
