Lakeside Brush Fire Causes One Injury, Cars and Homes Damaged

The fire started about noon on Olde Highway 80 east of Los Coches Road in Lakeside.

One person hospitalized from burns sustained in a brush fire Sunday near Interstate 8 is in critical condition, and several mobile homes and cars were either damaged or destroyed.

The fire started about noon on Olde Highway 80 east of Los Coches Road in Lakeside and was contained about an hour later, a Heartland Fire dispatcher said.

Several air tankers and two strike teams were dispatched to fight the vegetation fire near a mobile home park at 12428 Olde Highway 80.

The burn victim was taken to UC San Diego Hospital for treatment.

KFMB TV 8 News reported the victim's injuries were critical.

KFMB said the brush fire is believed to have sparked in a highly flammable dense patch of bamboo, embers from which ignited a blaze in a mobile home park across the street.
