Lakeside Motorcyclist Dies in Crash, Witnesses Say He Was Speeding

The man was riding near El Capitan High when he lost control.

Authorities released the name of a 47-year-old Lakeside man who was fatally injured Monday when he crashed his speeding motorcycle in front of El Capitan High School.

Martin David Erickson was killed in the crash in the 10300 block of Ashwood Street about 7 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. He died at the scene.

Witnesses said the man had been speeding on Ashwood Street, north of Mapleview Street, when his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle hit a dirt and rock embankment, causing him to be thrown to the pavement, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were factors, according to the CHP.
