UPDATE: Motorist Fatally Injured on SR 67

Update 4:21 p.m. A woman was found dead Sunday in a car that went off State Route 67 north of Lakeside, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched about 7:20 a.m. Dec. 22 to state Route 67, about 200 yards south of Lazy Acres Drive, about a half mile south of the Scripps Poway Parkway intersection, after the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo sedan was spotted in a ditch over the west side of the roadway, according to CHP officials.

Responding officers were initially unable to determine when the driver crashed, although it appeared that the wreckage had been there for several hours. A witness later told officers the crash occurred about 12:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The driver had been ejected, and was partially trapped underneath the overturned sedan, a CHP dispatcher said. The officers attempted life-saving efforts, however it quickly became apparent the woman was dead, he said.

Officers determined the woman had not been wearing a seatbelt when she crashed, according to the dispatcher.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the wreck. Investigators following up after the crash were also looking into whether the crash was intentional and the driver committed suicide, although that possibility had yet to be confirmed, the dispatcher said.

The woman has not been identified, the dispatcher said.

CHP officials asked anyone with information on the crash to call (619) 401-2000, or (858) 637-3800.
