Packages Stolen From Santee Porch are Part of a Trend

The Sheriff's Department says the theft is part of a series of similar crimes in the neighborhood.

The Sheriff's Department says the incident where two people were caught on tape stealing packages from a Santee porch is one of a series of thefts in the area, according to San Diego 6 News.

San Diego 6 aired an interview with the victim who caught two people on video in Santee Friday taking three recently delivered packages from the doorstep of her home.

The incident was recorded Friday afternoon on Abbeyfield Road, in the Carlton Oaks area. The front of the home was watched by three surveillance cameras that filmed a caucasian male and female from the same vehicle separately walk up to the doorstep and take one package. The cameras caught a shot of the car, which looks like a silver hatchback, similar to a Hyundai Accent. See video here.

The couple, April and Jim Merritt, have lived in Santee for three years and told News 6 that they've received packages on their porch without incident, until Friday.

"It's not so much the lost items," April told San Diego 6. "It's the sheer utter gall of people to come up and take things off your porch."
