Packages Stolen From Santee Porch are Part of a Trend

The Sheriff's Department says the theft is part of a series of similar crimes in the neighborhood.

The Sheriff's Department says the incident where two people were caught on tape stealing packages from a Santee porch is one of a series of thefts in the area, according to San Diego 6 News.

San Diego 6 aired an interview with the victim who caught two people on video in Santee Friday taking three recently delivered packages from the doorstep of her home.

The incident was recorded Friday afternoon on Abbeyfield Road, in the Carlton Oaks area. The front of the home was watched by three surveillance cameras that filmed a caucasian male and female from the same vehicle separately walk up to the doorstep and take one package. The cameras caught a shot of the car, which looks like a silver hatchback, similar to a Hyundai Accent. See video here.

The couple, April and Jim Merritt, have lived in Santee for three years and told News 6 that they've received packages on their porch without incident, until Friday.

"It's not so much the lost items," April told San Diego 6. "It's the sheer utter gall of people to come up and take things off your porch."

If you recognize the culprits and would like to help solve the case, call the Sheriff's Department at (619) 956-4000.

Do we know what the car looked like? That would help a lot. Since I have retired, my kids send their packages here.

The crooks have no clue that they are being watched. It's awesome. The best money I ever put into my house. Didn't cost very much and piece of mind is the best part. Anyone who has the balls to steal anything from anyone should have the sh*t kicked out of them. I hope you are successful in tracking down these dirtbags. Ask the deps if you can have first crack at them before they are dragged off to jail.

Hey - I have a 126 lb. cane corso male that doesn't like strangers. Funny thing, no one wants to come up to my porch.

Not every obese ex-drug-addict, that lives in Santee, should be harassed for this though. I sympathize for the people that had their packages stolen. My family had one stolen off our porch too, here in Santee and we too, had it on camera.. It was a blood pressure monitor that my brother and I purchased for our mother. My brother and I were furious and we wanted this thief to go to jail.. But I would never want innocent people, too be harassed/accused, like i was the other day. Again, my deepest sympathies too the victim.. I pray you get your justice..
