Sheriff Blotter: Thefts from Vehicles on the Rise

The following information was provided by the Santee Sheriff's Dept. and CrimeMapping.com for Sept. 27 through Oct. 2. The defendants have not been convicted of a crime.

Major Incidents

Santee authorities are warning of a surge in thefts of items in vehicles in the Mast Park area, according to a notice by the city.

Many of the thefts stem from items being left in plain sight in unlocked vehicles, according to the Sheriff's Crime Prevention Unit.

To that end, they've issued the following reminders:
- Don't leave valuables in your vehicle.
- Close windows and sunroofs and always lock the vehicle.
- Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious persons or activity. The reports should include a clear description of those involved, the suspect vehicle, last known direction of travel and ideally, a license plate number.
