Santee Crime Report: July 4-10

The following information was provided by the Santee Sheriff's Department and CrimeMapping.com mainly for July 4-10. The defendants have not been convicted of a crime.

• A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run following an accident in the 100 block of Town Center Parkway shortly after midnight on July 3. Two people were allegedly injured in the incident.

In addition to the hit-and-run allegation, deputies arrested Richard Whitaker Jr. on the evening of July 6 on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving, and driving on a suspended license, according to the report.

He was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego. On July 8, prosecutors in El Cajon Superior Court formally charged Whitaker in the case and he pleaded not guilty at that time, a public affairs officer with the District Attorney's Office said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 21.

• reported the theft of a video player and accessories in the 8800 block of north Magnolia Avenue on the morning of July 10. The items were valued at $720 and were last seen on the afternoon of July 7. No suspect information was listed. 

• Two men were arrested on felony burglary allegations after being apprehended at the in the 100 block of Town Center Parkway on the afternoon of July 8. About $100 worth of merchandise was reportedly recovered. The suspects, identified as Mark Wilson, 30, and Kenneth Mullett, 20, were booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego. Wilson faces an addition allegation of possessing hypodermics, a misdemeanor.

• A 23-year-old woman reported her purse was stolen in the 10900 block of north Woodside Avenue on the morning of July 8. The victim reported the total value of the loss at $1,500. No suspect information was listed in the report.

• The city of Santee reported a vehicle vandalism in the 9500 block of Via Zapador on the morning of July 8. A truck belonging to Harrison Trucking was also damaged, according to a deputy's report. Total damage was set at $500. No further details were included in the report. 

• Two people were arrested following a traffic stop in the 8900 block of Watson Place on the evening of June 24. The incident was not made public until July 8. The driver, Sabrina Agado, 32, was arrested on felony child abuse and misdemeanor drunken driving. A passenger,  Mary Schaefer, 26, was arrested on suspicion of a felony parole violation. Both were booked into the women's jail in Santee.

• David Sturgeon, 35, was cited and released after allegedly vandalizing a Tutor Time bus in the 9400 block of Cuyamaca Street on the morning of July 6. The damage, which was not detailed in the report, was listed at $500. 

• A 24-year-old man was cited after a deputy stopped him on suction of jaywalking in the 10500 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of July 4. Christopher Scribner was issued misdemeanor citations on suspicion of possessing an open container of alcohol and dumping trash in public. 

• Gary Corbin, 34, was arrested after deputies investigated an abuse report in the 10200 block of Mission Gorge Road on the afternoon of July 5. Corbin was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of felony elder abuse involving an 86-year-old female relative and a misdemeanor violation of a court corder. The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident.

• A 52-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 47-year-old woman in the 8300 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of July 5. Sheriff's records show Robert Busto was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, about 45 minutes after the incident was reported. The victim sustained a minor injury, according to a report. A 24-year-old woman was also allegedly assaulted in the incident but was not injured. Busto was not armed when contacted by deputies and the weapon involved was not included in the summary of the incident. 

• A 28-year-old man was arrested after a hit-and-run accident was reported at Prospect and Graves avenuea on the evening of May 26. The report was not made public until July 7. Nathan Araujo, was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego about an hour after the incident was reported on suspicion of drunken driving, misdemeanor hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license, unlawful display of registration and failing to provide financial responsibility information to officers. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle thefts reported value ranging from $5,000 to $10,000:

  • 8700 block of North Magnolia Avenue on the afternoon of July 6.
  • 9600 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard on the evening of July  4. Stolen items inside valued at $2,050.

Residential burglaries or grand thefts from buildings classified as felonies with items stolen valued from $ 160 to $50,200:

  • McDonald's, 8800 Cuyamaca Street during the early morning hours of July 7.
  • 10200 block of Pinewood View on the afternoon of July 5.

University Cleaners, 9600 block of Mission Gorge on the morning of July 6. 

  • 10200 block of Prospect Avenue on the morning of July 7.
  • 10300 block of Rosie Lane on the afternoon of July 8. 

Vehicle burglaries with items stolen valued at more than $400 (grand theft) or classified as felonies reported  at:

  • 9900 block of Riverwalk Drive on the afternoon  of  July 2. 
  • 9800 block of Cuyamaca Street on the morning of July 1.
