A 16-year-old boy who to racing another young motorist on state Route 52, causing a , is scheduled to be sentenced in Juvenile Court Monday afternoon.

The boy, who was a junior at in Santee at the time of the crash, pleaded guilty to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter resulting in death in connection with the April 4 double fatality on state Route 52. He faces a maximum of seven years and four months in custody.

Local Happenings

• A speeding SUV piloted by a suspected drunken driver slammed into a car east of Santee, and trapped a critically injured person inside the car Saturday night.

The suspected drunken driver was in a Mitsubishi Montero that was speeding south  at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday on Melrose Lane near Royal Road, in an unincorporated area near El Cajon, CHP officer Brian Pennings said.

• A fire destroyed a mobile home and displaced its residents early Sunday in an unincorporated community east of El Cajon, Cal Fire officials said.

The fire was reported about 1:15 a.m. in the 700 block of Rosalie Way in the Harbison Canyon community, according to Capt. Mike Mohler of Cal Fire.

• A masked gunman robbed an El Cajon hotel office early Monday but no one was hurt, police said.

The armed robbery at Quality Inn and Suites at 1250 El Cajon Blvd. occurred around 4 a.m., according to El Cajon police Lt. Tim Henton.

The robber entered the hotel's office and threatened a clerk with a black handgun while demanding cash, Henton said in a statement.

The clerk complied and the gunman fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.
