Sheriff Gore to Appear at Santee's National Night Out Event

The event in Santee kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and will include opportunities to meet Gore and local deputies, but also free food and games for kids.

You have some options if you want to be part of National Night Out Tuesday.

There will be events in Santee, La Mesa and Rancho San Diego to mark the celebration of crime prevention and community partnerships, but the times are staggered so you can jump around if you want.

One good reason to do so? San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore will be at one of the events.

Which one? That would be Santee. Gore is set to appear at 5:30 p.m. at the Trolley Square, 9884 Mission Gorge Road.

The event continues to 8 p.m. and will include opportunities to meet with local deputies, and members of the search-and-rescue and bomb/arson teams. They also will be a prescription dropoff for unwanted drugs, samples of food from local eateries and giveaways and games for kids.

La Mesa's National Night Out is set for Grossmont Center at 6 p.m. at the north Target parking lot, 5500 Grossmont Center Drive.

Members of the La Mesa police will be there, along with Heartland firefighters. Child fingerprinting will be offered, along with tours of emergency vehicles. La Mesa's event also will feature an emergency preparedness fair and free barbecue.

The Rancho San Diego event begins at 3:30 p.m. at 2911 Jamacha Road, also outside a Target store. There will be face painting for kids and a display of the sheriff's bomb/arson robot. Free hot dogs will be offered, along with giveaways.

Can't make it out to the events? Organizers encourage those who are staying at home to leave a porch light on to show support for the cause of crime prevention and good relationships with police and deputies.
