Start Smart Teen Driving Seminar Packs the Room at West Hills

Future classes will be held May 29 and July 17.

The Santee Sheriff's Station packed the room at the latest Start Smart teen driving safety seminar, and there are more coming up.

43 students and their parents packed the West Hills classroom for education on speeding, texting while driving, high-risk behaviors, distracted driving, driving while impaired, and to get scared straight with the infamous Red Asphault video.

Attendence has spiked, in most part because of new mandates that Santana and West Hills students must attend the class in order to park on campus.

The deputies also discuss the social host ordinance and the consequences of hosting parties to the parents.

"Our deputies excel with the presentation due to their hands-on and daily traffic enforcement; they also candidly share personal experiences, and provide facts and examples of driving tendencies that put young drivers at risk," said Nancy Ortiz, Crime Prevention Specialist at the Santee Sheriff's Station.
