Suspect Arrested in Case of Bystander Shot at Local Market

A suspect was arrested this week in the case of a shooting that injured a bystander in front of a market just east of Gillespie Field in November, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Latif Raimo, 22, was arrested December 16 at the office of his probation officer, the department announced Wednesday.

Authorities had asked the public for help in identifying the gunman who opened fire on a pair of rivals in front of an East County market, missing them but wounding a woman who had just pulled up in an SUV along with her young child, two other mothers and their youngsters.

The incident occurred the evening of November 7 in the parking lot of Shinar Pizza and Market, 240 East Bradley Avenue.

The Sheriff's Department announced Wednesday that the area of East Bradley Avenue where this shooting took place has seen a 57 percent increase in criminal activity and an increase in police calls for service this year compared to 2012. The increase has included two shootings and a robbery, the most recent was the shooting outside the market.
