Suspect Arrested in Santee City Hall Gas Siphoning Theft

A suspect in a recent gasoline siphoning theft from Santee City Hall vehicles has been identified and arrested, according to the Santee Review city blog.

Chans Milstead, 38, was arrested June 9 and taken to the downtown jail, with bail set at $50,000. The Sheriff's Department identified him as the man holding the gas canister in the surveillance photo. Authorities are still looking for the other suspect in the photo, contact the Santee Sheriff’s Station at (619) 956-4000 with any information.

The most recent in a string of gas thefts from City Hall occurred Memorial Day morning.

Milstead was identified by a Santee Sheriff’s investigator, who had recently arrested him on charges including possession of illegal drugs and a felon in possession of ammunition.

After obtaining a warrant, a search of the suspect's car found a section of hose and items authorities describe as “burglary tools.”
