Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Tree Along Settle Road in Santee
The tree was the only obstacle between the crashed vehicle and a house with sleeping children inside.
A suspected drunk driver led law enforcement on a short chase in the north of Santee before crashing into a tree in the front yard of a home on Settle Road late Saturday night.
The driver, who authorities said was traveling 40-50 m.p.h., is behind bars. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said if the tree wasn't there, the truck would have crashed into an occupied home with children sleeping inside.
