Suspected Drunken Driving Crash Causes Severe Injuries to Passenger

Driver of Mitsubishi Montero was speeding south on Melrose Lane near Royal Road, CHP says.

A speeding SUV piloted by a suspected drunken driver slammed into a car east of Santee and trapped a critically injured person inside the car, authorities said Sunday.

The suspected drunken driver was in a Mitsubishi Montero that was speeding south at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday on Melrose Lane near Royal Road in an unincorporated area near El Cajon, said CHP Officer Brian Pennings.

The SUV collided with the passenger side of a PT Cruiser that was turning left from northbound Melrose Lane into a private driveway, Pennings said.
