Suspicious Device at West Hills Park Retrieved by Bomb Arson Unit
The area was cleared and the "device" taken care of by authorities, but details on what it was and where it came from are vague.
The discovery of a suspicious device at the entrance to on
Thursday evening prompted authorities to clear the area and call in a member of the San Diego County Sheriff's .
The device was discovered around 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Charles Vorce said.
Traffic was detoured around the area at Mast Boulevard at Pebble Beach Drive while the device was retrieved by a member of the unit.
Once such a device is discovered, department protocol calls for officers
to remain safely away from the device and call in a unit, Vorce said.
The unit's Sgt. E.J. Dayrit said the device, which appeared to be some
type of device used to "ignite other items," was retrieved by an officer
without incident. He declined to detail how the item was dealt with, not
wanting to reveal specific unit techniques.
No injuries were reported.
