Texas Boy In Serious Trouble For Threatening Local Student On Internet

Local investigators were working with authorities in Texas to determine what charges might be filed against the youth.

This local story is a chilly reminder of what can happen when kids post on the Internet. While not all children would post such a thing, the story begs the question: Do kids (and many adults for that matter) understand the ramifications of some irresponsible posts and text messages?

WILDOMAR, CA -- A Texas 12-year-old is facing possible charges for allegedly threatening to shoot a Perris middle school student and blow up the school, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies were sent to Lakeside Middle School around 12:35 p.m. Thursday after learning that an unknown suspect posted on an Internet message board a threat to shoot a student and blow up the school, said Sgt. Ryan Hoxmeier.

Sheriff's investigators served a series of search warrants to Internet service providers and on Friday learned the message was posted by a 12-year-old living in Texas, Hoxmeier said.

"Investigators worked with Texas law enforcement authorities to identify and contact the juvenile," Hoxmeier said. "The suspect admitted guilt and has since forwarded an apology letter. At this time, it does not appear the suspect or victim knew one another prior to this incident."

An apology letter??? I agree that there has too be a much stiffer consequence or no lesson will be learned. We all know not to joke about or even mention the words bomb or gun when we're at an airport. If we do, we pay the price and it can be a big one. Make this kid understand that now and we may head off something terrible further down the road.

Some of you must have forgotten your childhood, or don't have any kids. Kids will say things without thinking, as will adults some times. I think past behavior, and maybe some counseling may help change any possible bad future...or maybe it was a stupid mistake made by a KID. I have kids and they have said things they shouldn't and done things that they shouldn't have WITHOUT THINKING and not because they are some nut job. Or not because the movies or video games made them do it. My kids were taught that movies and video games are FAKE...if you try any of it for real..there are consequences. If people take more responsibility for raising their kids the right way then some of the issues we have seen would be avoided.

@ LEMagx3, You are making too much sense, parenting is too much of a non-paying second job to men and women that are parents by the mere fact that they have a chld. If people decide on their own accord to be responsible, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. The lack of moral decency, civility and common sense in this country is eroding away daily. The blame is never on the person or the parents but inanimate objects that parents put in front of children instead of themselves. I have two children of my own, I work full time, go to school full time, married and I am tired all of the time, but I don't pass the buck on my kids. Children by decision or unplanned, should and always be the number 1 priority for parents and it's a shame that now many peopel look at them as a burden or an inconvenience to their "bigger" plans in life, and this is why there is such a problem with children today.

Thank you for asking an intelligent question! It's like people react without asking for any context for a situation at all.
