Firefighters made quick work Thursday of two vegetation blazes alongside State Route 67 near the San Diego River in Santee.
The non-injury fires broke out in Santee shortly before 1:30 p.m. next to the freeway near Wheatlands Avenue and about a half-mile to the southeast, close to Riverford Road, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Crews had the flames extinguished within about 15 minutes, according to Heartland Fire & Rescue. There were no structural threats, a dispatcher said.
A trailer with brake problems might have set the foliage ablaze, according to the CHP.
