Woman Jumps from Moving Truck in East County

The woman reportedly fell into the roadway and sustained major head trauma.

A woman who jumped from a moving truck in Alpine Sunday is not expected to survive her injuries, and sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating.

Shortly before 3 a.m., the woman and a man who identified himself as her boyfriend were in a truck travelling along Willows Road near Via La Mancha when she exited the vehicle while it was still moving, sheriff's Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.

She fell into the roadway and sustained major head trauma, Giannantonio said.

The man placed the woman back into the truck and drove her to Grossmont Hospital, according to the lieutenant. She was subsequently transferred to Sharp Memorial Hospital and is not expected to survive, he said.

The man remained at the hospital and was interviewed by investigators, Giannantonio said.

Willows Road was temporarily closed during the investigation, but has since reopened.

Giannantonio asked anyone with information about the incident to call detectives at (858) 974-2321, or after hours at (858) 565-5200, or to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
