Assemblyman Jones Asks for Public Input on 'Transgender Bathroom Bill'

In his latest “Are You Kidding Me?” video Santee's Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-71) reacts to a bill, already signed into law by Governor Brown, that will allow students to be on an athletic team or use bathroom and locker facilities with the gender they "identify with," regardless of their actual gender. 


In the video Jones said he wants to hear from people throughout the state about AB 1266 and encourages Californians to contact his district office at (619) 441-2322.  

“Just because this bill has become law, doesn’t mean it’s too late to express your views,” said Jones.

He gives his own opinion of AB 1266 in the video, referring to the bill as outrageous.

"Where are your children's rights to privacy at school? What happened to our rights as parents?" he said.

"The consequences of this law will be far reaching and go far beyond what we can even imagine at this point in time."

The Transgender Law Center said in reaction the the bill's passage that it "will allow transgender students to fully participate in all school activities, programs, and facilities."

“We have heard from scores of parents concerned that their children are at risk for dropping out of school merely because they are transgender,” said Transgender Law Center Executive Director Masen Davis.

“It breaks my heart to see our youth excluded from activities at school simply because of who they are. This bill is urgently needed to ensure that every student has a fair chance to fully participate and graduate.” 

The law goes into effect Jan. 1 and is expected to affect some 6.2 million public school students in California, according to the Washington Post.
