City Council Presents: Sportsplex Gives Back and Honoring an RSVP

Sportsplex gives the city a huge rent check, TOT resolution tweak gets passed and Peggy Taylor is honored.

• The main feature of the meeting was the hearing of an appeal by to adjust the rent ceiling for Santee's mobile home . The council vote unanimously to deny the appeal, after hearing a 20-minute argument from representatives of Cameron's and hearing from about a dozen residents in opposition of the rent raise. It was a packed house, with about 120 people in attendance.

• The city of Santee recieved a symbolic check from  for $135,711- the city's proceeds from their sports complex at  from June 2011 through May 2012.  and Bill Berghoff from Sportsplex USA presented the check to Santee City Councilman  (see photo).

In 2012 the Santee Sportsplex has been recognized with a cover story in the new Santee Magazine and chosen as by the .

• The meeting was adjourned in memory of Peggy Taylor, a long-time member of the Santee Sheriff's . She served with her husband, Bob Taylor, who was presented with a certificate honoring her service (see photo). Peggy and Bob Taylor have been residents of Santee since 1971.

• After hours of discussion on the mobile home rent control topic, the resolution to tweak the TOT was swiftly voted upon. The "resolution supporting an exemption from the Transient Occupancy Tax for stays of 30 days or longer, including the first 30 days of such longer stays.," was approved with a 4-1 vote, Minto voting against.
