City to Hold Second Mast Park Master Plan Meeting

The city held its first workshop in June to gather ideas from the public on the plan for the park, which is the oldest and largest park in Santee.

The plan emphasizes incorporating health and wellness elements and new amenities that promote physical activity and improved public health.

Community members who attended the initial meeting offered various suggestions for park improvements, including: installing additional picnic shelters to accommodate larger gatherings; retaining the rustic feel of the park; adding new features that appeal to adolescents and teens, such as a rock climbing wall; dividing the 2.4-acre off-leash dog park into two zones, one for small dogs and another for big dogs; and considering alternative designs that would improve parking and safety.

Schmidt Design Group used the public’s feedback to draft the three conceptual plans that will be discussed during the meeting.

The City Council is expected to review and adopt a final master plan design later this year or in early 2012.

The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at , Building 7, 10601 Magnolia Ave.
