Ordinances

City Council will consider an ordinance that would allow the City Attorney discretion in charging either an infraction or misdemeanor when prosecuting an infraction of the Santee Municipal Code. Currently the courts can't reduce a misdemeanor offense to an infraction.

New Business

• City staff is looking for authorization from council to begin the process of requesting proposals for a project to construct a water well in order to save on costs of irrigating Town Center Park. The estimated cost of constructing the well, $205,000, would be paid off in about two years time, as it is estimated it will save the city about $104,000 annually in irrigation expenses. If approved, well installation is estimated at summer of 2013.

• Council will vote to authorize a five-year agreement with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which provides law enforcement services for the City of Santee. The contract has been delayed for months during negotiations, which were settled to allow for a maximum 5.5 percent annual increase annually in the contract budget, which is $11.6 million in Fiscal Year 2012-13.

• The city contracts with County Animal Control Services and council will vote to renew their contract. Annual costs for this service come to $302,000 annually. The city is considering contracting with El Cajon Animal Control Services when their new facility is ready in a couple years.
