Fanita Parkway and Pebble Beach Fix Updates

Two Santee roads in particular are on the cusp of receiving the major care they need.

Two Santee roads are in particularly bad shape, for entirely different reasons. The city has made progress toward giving each road the care it needs.

Fanita Parkway

The much contended is back in the headlines after a the full property of , including the private road that goes along the .

The last word on the subject was the that something would be done to remedy the situation, even if that meant, in this one case, the City pays to have a private road reconstructed.

The City's website recently included these updates on the road:

"Santee’s engineering staff this week is working to fast-track proposed improvements to Fanita Parkway, a badly deteriorated private road that the City Council on Jan. 12 agreed needs to be fixed...

"Meanwhile, the city is continuing talks with the landowner over financing the project. Padre Dam Municipal Water District is also involved in those discussions."

Mayor Randy Voepel made it clear in a recent email exchange with a resident that making the fixes is a top priority of the City.

"City Council's top priority is to emergency patch the main potholes in the roadway. The sidewalk/pathway is once again not a City sidewalk and we must see who might pay for anything at all," wrote Voepel.

Pebble Beach Sinkhole

The was for normal road access about a month ago, and final repairs have begun.

Letters explaining the timeline of fixes were sent out to residents along the street last week (see the letter in the media box).

A contractor began work this week to fix the storm drain pipes and the street, according to the City.

The letter reads:

"Expect to see construction activity between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. during weekdays through March 4, when the project is expected to be completed.

"Residents may experience some brief traffic access delays during this period. No prolonged street closures are anticipated, and at least one travel lane will remain open...

"From Feb. 7 to  Feb. 18, workers will be installing a new high-density plastic pipe inside the twin 72-inch diameter parallel corrugated metal storm pipes...

"Final repairs to the road and adjacent side yards of residences will be done from Feb. 28 to March 4."
