The Girl Scouts came up next, and received a proclamation for "3-G Girls Go Green Day" (Girls Scouts Earth Day event), May 6, 2011. Mayor Randy Voepel told the crowd how the girls had met with him in his office to discuss environmental issues, specifically eliminating plastic grocery bags from Santee. Voepel told the girls he doesn’t quite buy into the "green" stuff, especially when it impacts the poor in the city, as eliminating plastic grocery bags might do. The Girl Scouts decided not to argue with him while receiving their proclamation. Though the Mayor may not entirely agree with the premise, he said he supports their event, handing out reusable grocery bags at stores around town.

The , a City softball game between and at a couple weeks ago was recognized on Wednesday. Representatives of the winning team, West Hills, were officially presented with the new City Championship trophy.
