Largest Collection of Street Repairs in Santee's History Set to Begin Shortly

City staff has been working hard to start a huge package of road improvements this Summer.

The City of Santee is embarking on the largest set of road repairs and improvements in its history, and the most expensive, costing about $6.5 million.

The first phase of work will include , which is being due to , Lake Canyon Road, East Glendon Circle, Rumson Drive, Carlton Hills Boulevard and Mission Gorge Road from Cottonwood Avenue to Riverview Parkway. This City estimates this bundle will cost $4.7 million and plan to begin repairs in July.

Phase two is a smaller bundle expected to cost about $1.8 million. According to Pedro Orso-Delgado, the streets being considered for phase two, based on available funding, include Mission Gorge Road(Cottonwood to Riverview Parkway) Woodside Avenue (Magnolia Ave to Sr-67), Simeon Drive, Bushy Hill Drive, Wahl Street, and the Wheatlands Industrial Park Area.

The bundle strategy is being used to attract cheaper bids from contractors, and the city said it is taking advantage of low prices due to the .

According to the city website, "the bulk of the work will be applying rubberized asphalt to road surfaces. But repairs will also be made to , concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters and the installation of pedestrian ramps."

Community meetings are being held for Phase 1 work on June 27 and 28 in Building 8 of City Hall from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
