New Area of Sycamore Canyon Preserve Trails to Connect to Santee

The County of San Diego approved a land purchase in the open space of trails north of Santee that will one day connect to the San Diego River trail network.

The signed off today on the on the north end of the 2,300- acre .

The 112.78 acres along Goodan Ranch near Scripps Poway Parkway has a network of trails, is a prime habitat of the California gnatcatcher and has "world-class'' terrain for mountain biking, according to Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who represents the area.

Trails on the property will connect to others that go to Poway and Santee, and will eventually provide access to the , according to county documents.

Funding for the purchase will come from the county's Multiple Species Conservation Program, augmented by a $200,000 state grant. Approval was unanimous, without comment, as part of the board's consent agenda.
