New Mast Park Designs Coming to Light

After two meetings getting public feedback on changes that could be made to Mast Park, the designer summarizes their findings.

Twice this summer the has held concerning the future of one of the town's amazing open space areas, .

At these meetings the city was looking for residents to provide feedback on a "series of proposed designs aimed at making Mast Park more enjoyable and safe for families."

An emphasis of the new design is the addition of parking areas that extend deeper into the park and would appear to triple the amount of parking space. Community Services Director said that public reaction at the meeting to such a large increase in parking was negative, and new designs will take this into account.

Some of the main concerns of residents at both meetings included keeping the rustic and "naturalized" feel of the park.

A mile loop trail around the park would be upgraded with interpretive signs and exercise/fitness stations.

According to a video released by Schmidt Design Group, the group in charge of making the new designs, they and the city will be refining the Mast Park Master Plan and "coming back with the preferred alternative in the fall, with more public hearings to get feedback."

Ideas for the new design include:
