Caltrans Grant Will Make Walk to Two Santee Schools Safer

The city won two grants from Caltrans' Safe Route to Schools Program totalling $624,200.

The city won two grants from Caltrans' Safe Route to Schools Program totalling $624,200. From a total of 336 applications, these two projects were among 139 chosen by Caltrans.

A gap in the sidewalk on between Glen Oaks Way and South Slope Drive will be filled in, and the sidewalk in front of Carlton Oaks school on Wethersfield Road will be widened.

Not only does this improve the safety and enjoyment of students walking in the area, but all Santee pedestrians will reap the benefits.

Those walking to school when it comes back into session in September won't see the improvements yet. Santee City Manager Keith Till said that construction on these projects will begin sometime in the fall.
