Santee City Government Sees No Immediate Effects From Federal Shutdown

City Manager Keith Till: "Certain funds passed through by the state or county could at some time in the future be jeopardized."

As Congress continues to spar over budgets and the Affordable Care Act the federal government ran out of money at midnight Monday. But how long will a federal shutdown take to affect government on a local scale?

According to Santee City Manager Keith Till, there is no immediate effect at the city level.

"We don’t rely generally on funding directly from the federal government, but certain funds passed through by the state or county could at some time in the future be jeopardized."

He told Patch last week that the city wasn't planning for anything in case of a federal shutdown.

As for the shutdown's affect on residents, active-duty military and the Border Patrol are on duty, but thousands of federal employees will be furloughed and services from home loans to veterans benefits will be affected.

"Of course, the loss of federal jobs in the San Diego region – even temporarily - is a serious concern for everyone," said Till.
