The City of Santee blog sheds some light on new developments around town.

NEW FREEWAY ACCESS LANE

If you deal with traffic delays getting onto SR-52 at Cuyamaca Street during rush hour, you'll be glad to know the City of Santee and Caltrans have agreed to add an extra freeway access lane that will double capacity.

Work on installing the extra lane is scheduled for overnight on May 6.

More than a year ago the City Council made a rushed decision to approve about $20 million in Prospect Avenue redevelopment, and a recent post on the Santee Review blog describes the city moving forward with the project. They would like to begin construction in 2014.

The blog describes what the intent of the project is:

"The intent is to create a 'red carpet' for business expansion along this important commercial corridor along Santee’s southern border with Gillespie Field."

This corridor is the section of Prospect between Magnolia Avenue and Cuyamaca Street is the area meant for revitalization such as lighting, landscaping, sidewalks, new parking and putting the power lines underground.

A meeting is scheduled for sometime in June, we'll let you know when a date is set.
