Santee Sales Tax Bumped up to 8% — Still Lowest in East County

On January 1 California's sales tax rates increased by a quarter cent across the state.

As of Jan. 1, California's sales tax rate increased by 0.25 percent, sending Santee's rate to 8 percent from 7.75 percent.

The tax increase comes from the passage of Proposition 30 during the November 2012 elections.

Santee's rate remains amongst the lowest in East County San Diego, compared to La Mesa's 8.75 percent and El Cajon's 9 percent rates. Lemon Grove and Lakeside also have an 8 percent sales tax rate.

The Santee Chamber of Commerce can continue publicize "Shop Santee and Save," a promotion that capitalizes on the city's lower tax rate compared to neighboring cities and encourages shoppers to make large purchases in Santee.

Most of San Diego County also has a sales tax rate of 8 percent. The highest sales tax rate in the county is National City's at 9 percent.
