Santee Sheriff Sergeant Shows Off the Neighborhoods For Kids Program

Neighborhoods for Kids is an East County child welfare program that is a model around the nation.

Sgt. Chris May from the Santee Sheriff’s Station spoke Friday morning at a national video conference to improve child welfare services. He shared law enforcements view of the success of East County’s Neighborhoods for Kids program, a child welfare program run by the San Diego County Health and Human Services which strives to keep abused and neglected children in safe, familiar placements and in their same school.

May was a part of a panel of child welfare leaders and community partners in San Diego speaking with child welfare programs from around the country that were tuning in electronically in order to learn what makes San Diego’s program run so well.

All East County children reported to the child abuse hotline, or who are dependents of the Juvenile Court, are served by Neighborhood for Kids.
