Sheriff’s Detective Arrested on Suspicion of Hit and Run and DUI

Barbara Jean Crozier is due to appear in court in Riverside county Nov. 2.

A Santee Sheriff’s detective has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and a hit and run in Palm Desert, authorities confirmed Friday.

Barbara Jean Crozier has a court date on Nov. 2 court in Riverside County, where she was arrested this week.

Deputies responding to reports of a hit-and-run crash at about 8 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Desert were told by a witness that a vehicle with a woman behind the wheel collided with several parked cars and ran over a pedestrian’s foot in an apartment complex’s parking lot, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Borja said.

The witness provided investigators with a description of the vehicle and its license plate number, he said.

Then at about 11:40 Tuesday night, deputies received a call that a vehicle had crashed into a water fountain at the entrance of the Marrakesh Country Club at 47000 Marrakesh Dr. in Palm Desert. The license plate of the vehicle matched the one from the hit and run, according to Borja.

Barbara Jean Crozier, 47, was arrested and booked at the Indio jail on suspicion of hit and run and driving while intoxicated, Borja said.

Crozier was released on $50,000 bail early Wednesday and is scheduled to appear at the Indio courthouse on Nov. 2, according to jail records.

She works out of the Santee substation, a representative from the Sheriff’s Department personnel office confirmed. Her current status with the department was not immediately known.

Crozier worked in Ramona prior to transferring to Santee. She is one of several staff who worked at the Ramona Sheriff's substation who are named in a lawsuit involving a teenager who was detained in 2009.

Sorry, but I got a good chuckle from this. They'll treat you like a murdering terrorist when they stop you for a DUI, now the shoe's on the other foot. How's it feel Barbara Jean??
