See if San Diego County Owes You Money

The county of San Diego is holding more than $210,000 in unclaimed funds owed to property taxpayers, or to individuals or businesses that have conducted business with county departments over the past three years, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Tuesday.

The list of 800 accounts to which the county owes money is online at sdtreastax.com, and printed copies are available at each of the department's offices. He said those who are on the list have less than two months to file a claim.

"We may have your money and you may not be aware of it," McAllister said. "We hope that the owners come forward before September 14th and claim their refund."

The unclaimed funds include $117,402 in property tax refunds and $94,000 from various county departments that consumers have dealt with during the past three years, McAllister said.

The lowest refund available is just over $10 and the highest is $8,756. The largest amount available for an individual is $8,340.42 to the estate of the late Luke Cassidy, he said.

State law allows property tax refunds unclaimed after four years to be turned over to the general fund. The deadline for other money is three years.
