El Cajon wildlife painter Gloria Chadwick honored by Artists for Conservation

El Cajon wildlife painter selected as "Artist of the Month" by the Artists for Conservation.

El Cajon resident and wildlife painter Gloria Chadwick has been selected as the January 2013 “Artist of the Month” by the Artists for Conservation (AFC), an exclusive international group of 500 of the world’s most gifted nature artists from 27 countries across five continents. Chadwick has been a member of AFC since 2007. AFC comprises an invitation-only membership of world-class artists in support of the environment and conservation.

 

AFC’s monthly honor recognizes an AFC member for outstanding artistic talent and extraordinary contribution to conservation causes. Chadwick is featured on the AFC website, www.natureartists.com, with a photo and background information.

Chadwick uses her artwork to support nature, including donating 20 percent of her sales to organizations that support conservation efforts for animal species. She also has assisted as a state coordinator at recent workshops for children who competed in the Junior Duck Stamp contest that included lessons about protecting wetland habitats.

She has exhibited at multiple art shows throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as local venues, including the El Cajon City Library, La Mesa Community Center, Olaf Wieghorst Western Heritage Center in El Cajon, Liberty Station in Point Loma, San Diego County Fair and San Diego Natural History Museum.

 

In addition to AFC, Chadwick is a member of Women Artists of the West, Pacific Southwest Wildlife Arts, East County Art Association, California Art Club and the Animal Center for Education and Services (ACES), a local organization dedicated to animal care.

 

Since 1998, Chadwick has served on the board of directors of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in the East County region. A second generation San Diegan and resident of East County since 1964, Chadwick was the first woman to be elected to the GHD board in 22 years. In 2000, she was the first woman ever to serve as board president. She was reelected in 2002, 2006 and 2010. The registered nurse retired in 2008 as a psychiatric nurse after a 44-year career in the healthcare profession.
