Grossmont College will host reunion of youth baseball team members from ’57 and ’61
Remember when La Mesa was youth baseball capital of the world?
Remember when La Mesa was the youth baseball capital of the world? The Sporting News magazine of Sept. 11, 1957 featured the headline, “La Mesa, Kid Ball Capital.”
On Saturday, Sept. 15, Grossmont College will host a reunion of members of two La Mesa-based championship youth baseball teams from 1957 and 1961. The La Mesa Historical Society will present a roundtable of former players from the 1957 La Mesa Colt League national champions and the 1961 Little League world champions. The presentation will include a video replay of the 1961 team's 6th inning "walk-off" victory. Exhibits featuring team memorabilia also will be on display.
