Son of NFL QB is speaker at Foothills’ men’s breakfast

Brian Schroeder of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be the featured speaker at the Foothills Christian Church’s men’s fellowship breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31, at the church’s youth auditorium, 365 W. Schroeder, FCA’s western regional director of camp operations, will discuss growing up the son of an NFL quarterback, his own role as a father of his own three children and the importance of authentic Christian fatherhood. Schroeder married his high school sweetheart Dianna one month after graduating from Christian High School in El Cajon. They have three children, a son age 5, and two daughters, ages 3 and 1.

A former prep standout in football, baseball and basketball at Christian High (class of 2003), Schroeder received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and was named the team’s pitcher of the year during his sophomore year. After three years in college, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played two seasons in the minor leagues in the Quad Cities area of Iowa and State College, Penn. After leaving baseball in May 2007, he joined FCA in September 2007. Today, he is responsible for FCA sports camps in California, Nevada and Hawaii that are attended annually by more than 4,000 athletes and coaches.

Schroeder’s father, Jay Schroeder, played 11 seasons in the National Football League, from 1984 to 1994, with four teams, including the Redskins, Raiders, Bengals and Cardinals. The elder Schroeder now serves as the head football coach at Village Christian High School in Burbank, Calif.
