Welcome to WhatsGoingOnInSantee.com 2.0! If you are watching this video on the Whats Going On in Santee web site then you will see there have been lots of changes. In this episode of whats going on I talk about the Santee Bluegrass Festival that will be held at Santee Town Center Community Park on Sept. 22, 2012 from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are on sale now for $35.00 on the City of Santee web site at: www.ci.santee.ca.us/Index.aspx?page=8&recordid=1694  and will be available until midnight on 9/17. After that tickets will be $40 at the door if any are still available. This event will display many of the Santee and surrounding cities restaurants, wineries, and breweries, along with the Blugrass sounds of Box Canyon and The Tail Draggers.

Next, I give you the scoop on all of the construction going on right now in Santee when it comes to new places to get your eat on. Including , Buffalo Wild Wings, Boll Weevil, In-N-Out, Chic-Fil-a, and Roots Community Kitchen.

Finally, I close with an open invitation for you to comment about what you would like to see added to our fine town business wise. City staff, members of the Santee Chamber of Commerce, and myself will be heading downtown to the ICSC (International Conference of Shopping Centers) Expo in two weeks to try find some new businesses to bring to Santee. I would love to know what you think we are still missing.

Love what is happening in Santee - great restaurants. Just one thing missing. A good seafood restaurant. Any chance there will be one?.

Love to see a new owner take over Lacey J's. Santee really does need a good Country Restaurant/Dance Hall in Santee. It would be great to have a well known person come in with the $$$ to make it happen...Example: Toby Keith...I Love the Bar! If not, anyone who can bring "Country" back into Santee! Thanks!
Rosie Becker September 13, 2012 at 02:03 PM
Sorry...typo in the comment.... Toby Keith...I Love this Bar!

How about a Trader Joes and a Red Lobster?
Chuck Rininger September 13, 2012 at 04:00 PM
Will have to say Ditto with Rosie. Lacey J'S, Wagon Wheel, Mulavneys. Or what ever name you call this Icon of Santee, It has been the Country Music, fine Food, pool, dancing, dance Lessons and a Full Bar for longer than many have been alive. Would be nice to see group of investors come in and get the doors open again.

Whole Foods market needs to come to Santee. They are putting another store on the coast. I guess they don't think people in east county eat healthy foods!
just my opinion September 13, 2012 at 06:38 PM
How about a vegan restaurant.
Steven Bartholow (Editor) September 13, 2012 at 06:59 PM
Vegan bakery opened in town recently: http://santee.patch.com/listings/starry-lane-bakery

Trader Joe's, islands and a movie theater. That would be awesome.
SanteeMom September 13, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Trader Joe's, Souplantation, a movie theater.

There are quite a few people who still love to dance at any age. The re-opening of a dance venue in Santee would bring joy to us social folks!
Barry Berkeley September 14, 2012 at 01:40 AM
Yes this would be a great idea. The wagon wheel has been in Satee since 1943. We want it reopened with hard country music. We only want country, no rock or other stuff. This is east county. I saw Kitty Wells with my grandmother in 1953at the wagon wheel. Keep it country. Barry Berkeley El Cajon California

Large hotel (Hyatt/ Hilton) with a spa, a better option then the Roadway Inn for visitors. Movie Theaters seem to be a dying breed and may be extinct in the next 10 years. Trader Joe's for sure. Driving range. Some more gas lamp type watering holes. A water park with a wave pool. A mini golf and go kart track. A high end restaurant (Brian Malarkey). Anything that santeeans currently travel to other parts of town for.

Been country dancing for almost 20 years. First place I ever set foot in was Mulvaney's. Saw it change to Wagon Wheel and then to Lacey J's...then saw it shut down. I'd like to see this dance hall and restaurant open again. Please find someone who can make this happen.

So what is happening in the empty space next to Michael's???
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:44 AM
I would love to see a Brigantine type restaurant here.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:44 AM
Yes sir, I have heard Trader Joe's a lot.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:46 AM
The theater has been the Great White Wale of Santee since the AMC left. We are definitely trying to get one back!!
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:48 AM
The owners of Root's are sure hoping that isn't true. That is their whole concept, a healthier organic meal.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:49 AM
Never thought of Islands. Humm thanks for the idea.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:54 AM
Well Big Daddy, I asked for ideas and you sure have a few. Thanks for the info!! I was just talking to the owners of La Puerta (from the Gaslamp) last week and they are coming out to take a look around Santee in the next week or so. They were thinking Poway, but i think I have them now looking more towards Santee.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 12:56 AM
I don't know, but I will see if we have anything on the radar for you.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 01:01 AM
I agree that it would take a big name with some big money to make that place a success. It seems that last few owners have not had the means to renovate the location to make it more of a restaurant/bar that I think it would need to be in order to have some success in today's marketplace.
Rob McNelis September 18, 2012 at 01:03 AM
Thank you everyone for the great ideas and please keep them coming! Even if it has already been mentioned, it is nice to hear/read that more than one person would like to see something new here in town.

For many years East County residents went to the corner of Mission Gorge & Magnolia when they wanted to have an enjoyable evening, dancing, watching others line dance & two step, have a cocktail & a nice dinner. I hope Santee continues the tradition of having a place like Mulvaneys on that special corner again. We miss our dance hall & saloon.
Shaun September 19, 2012 at 07:35 PM
I have been dancing at Mulvaney's/Wagon Wheel/Lacey J's since the 80's. It's a shame that it has closed. I would love to see someone come in and open it up. We need a place to dance again!!!.

I'm probably a little too late but if you really want a movie theater to end all theater take a look at cinepolis. Closest one is in Del Mar. It is a little more expensive but has leather recliners and wait service. However it would be easy to create a multiplex integrating the fancy theaters and regular theaters so you can provide the luxury seating and also a cheaper alternative. I also would like to see more business-businesses like corporations and such. Like how the Harford opened up here...

We really need entertainment type places: Movies are not dying (They are just so expensive!); Places for Teens to go that they will not get into/cause trouble (Water Park); Fun places that will not break the bank... Family Fun Center was awesome back in the day... Kids need something to do for date night that won't require a bank loan or a car, and so do single adults... There are enough bars and restaurants now. The Off Broadway is a nice date spot; reminds me of a comedy club type atmosphere, minus the alcohol.
