Chargers Players Bring Fitness Goals to Rio Seco and Santee School District

VIDEO: Darrell Stuckey and Vincent Brown kick off the NFL Play 60 campaign to get students more physically active everyday.

A campaign to get began Monday morning at where Chargers players Darrell Stuckey and Vincent Brown revved up the kids for the NFL Play 60 Challenge.

The American Heart Assoc. and the San Diego Chargers are bringing this challenge to all nine schools- more than 2,200 students. This 4-week program is all about engaging the youth to be physically active for at least an hour a day, and to educate them about why fitness is important.

"About one in three kids ages 2-19 are overweight or obese," said Dr. James Dunford, President of the American Heart Assoc. San Diego Division.

Two Jr. Chargers Training Camps will be held at the end of the challenge, where groups of students from across the district will get to do some mini versions of Chargers pre-game warm ups.

"We hope the enthusiasm during this challenge is infectious enough to keep up the momentum year round," said Dr. Laura Spencer, Chair at the Santee School District.
